Advanced Wound Care Management Encourages Natural Healing Process

Advanced Wound Care Management

Advanced wound care management solutions are widely used by healthcare professionals to treat more complex wounds. However, it is a therapeutic approach to encourage effective wound healing process. Wound care management uses the principle of moisture therapy that provides moisture treatment to stimulate the natural healing process. Alginates, hydrogels, hydrocolloids, and film/foam dressings are some of the products used in the moist wound care therapy. Apart from maintaining hydrated environment, this therapy also removes dead tissue, keeps the temperature consistent, allows flow of oxygen, eases the pain associated with dressing changes, and protects the site from exogenous infection.

Moreover, advanced wound care management products are highly resistant to foreign particles and environmental inhibitors. Hydrocolloid dressings, for instance, contain hydrophilic substances, which absorb bacteria, dirt, fluids, and forming a protective gel mass. Furthermore, protection from infection, relieve in pain, assistance in oxygenation, removal of dead tissues, and maintenance of stable temperature around the wound are some of the major focus areas of advanced wound care management.

With the growing geriatric population and increasing prevalence of diabetes coupled with chronic wounds, the demand for advanced wound care management is also increasing. Around 34.2 million people in the United States have diabetes and around 88 million American have prediabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Moreover, the U.S. government estimated that the elderly population will be over 55 million by 2020, and chronic wounds will continue to be an increasingly persistent problem in this population.

Wound care products are classified into traditional and advanced wound care management products. Worldwide, traditional wound care management products are more popular, in which healthcare professionals use wound care products such as bandage rolls, dressings, and medical tapes to protect the wound from external factors and infections. On contrary, advanced wound care management products encourage the natural healing process and maintain a conducive environment to protect the wound from external environment.
