What Are Various Steps Involves In Cytomegalovirus Infection Treatment And Diagnosis?
Cytomegalovirus, also known as cycloviruses, is a genus of retroviruses in the genus Cytomegalovirus, in the genus Lipophilicoviridae, from the subfamily Allergicoviridae, of the family Cytokaryoviridae. Humans and several other species of monkey serve as natural reservoirs.
Cycloviruses
are viruses that are transmitted via contact with the bodily secretions of an
infected person, or even through breathing air. The virus then enters the
bloodstream through the lungs, where it attacks the liver and kidneys. After
entering the liver, it causes the destruction of the organ. The body becomes
prepared to respond by producing antibodies (this is to stop the further attack
of the virus). As the disease progresses, the antibodies decrease the
efficiency of the liver and kidney, causing liver failure and eventually death.
In extremely acute circumstances (cases when a very high percentage of persons
infected have died), there is even a situation where the disease kills the
person whose organs were damaged by the virus.
Moreover,
symptoms of cytomegalovirus infections include an acute onset of fever, loss of
appetite, nausea, vomiting, and a general feeling of being unwell. The first
step in cytomegalovirus infection treatment and diagnosis is to have an
accurate diagnosis by obtaining a full physical examination. Other symptoms of
Cytomegalovirus that need to be diagnosed include bone infections and possibly
leukemia, or an abnormal test result such as HIV or a positive test for HCG.
The
laboratory test that is used to diagnose the infection is polymerase chain
reaction (PCR) on saliva.
In
most cases, the cytomegalovirus infection treatment and diagnosis will be treated
using a combination of antiviral drugs and vaccines. Treatment is usually
recommended for those with symptoms of Cytomegalovirus for no more than 14
days. Tetanus vaccination is also used in the prevention and treatment of
cytomegalovirus infection
