The Emergence of COVID-19 to Augment the China Thermometers Market Growth
A thermometer is a medical device used to measure temperature. It has two important elements, such as a digital readout (visible scale) and temperature sensor. Thermometers find application in medical, cryometer, nanothermometry, food and food safety, industrial, and environmental sectors. Different types of thermometers are available in the market, such as glass and mercury thermometers, forehead thermometers, plastic strip thermometers, electronic ear thermometers, pacifier thermometers, and digital thermometers. Major factor attributing to the growth of the China thermometers market is the emergence of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
Temperature measurement can be one part of the assessment to
determine if a person has an elevated temperature potentially caused by
COVID-19. Non-contact infrared thermometers and thermal imaging systems can be
used to measure an individual's temperature. According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), worldwide, as of 1:30pm CEST, 28 March 2021, there have been 126,359,540
confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,769,473 deaths. The current outbreak
has been caused by a strain of coronavirus that had not previously detected
anywhere in the world before the outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China in
December 2019.
Thus, there is an increasing demand for thermometers, which
in turn, is also expected to aid in the China thermometers market growth. Thermometers
can record temperatures in a minute and are suitable for infants, newborns, children,
and adults. Moreover, government bodies, in China, are focused on adopting
various strategies to curb the spread of the coronavirus. For instance, the
Ministry of Commerce (China), in April 2020, approved exports of products such
as infrared thermometers, ventilators, protective clothing, medical face masks,
and COVID-19 test kits to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Furthermore, China installed thermometers in public places in
an effort to detect symptoms of the coronavirus. Such government initiatives
are expected to augment the growth of the China thermometers market. Moreover, increase
in research and development in thermometers is responsible for the growth of
the China thermometers market. For instance, in May 2020, the research team
from the National ChungHsing University, Taiwan, and University of California,
San Diego, the U.S., proposed a standard procedure to determine fever by
measuring forehead temperature with the help of an infrared thermometer.
However, there are certain factors which may hinder the
growth of the China thermometers market, such as the presence of mercury in
traditional thermometers and the high cost of digital thermometers compared to
that of traditional thermometers.
